A great game that nobody played (Nintendo)
Earthbound is one of the most unique RPGs and very unusual indeed for the Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems (SNES).
The basic premise is that you are a young boy living in Eagleland (read: America), with psychic powers. A strange and powerful being named Giygas threatens to destroy everything. You must travel the world, visiting each of "my sanctuary" collecting the melodies found and the fight against all that is to stop you (including pots of coffee). On the way, you meet a girl psychic equipped with a pan, a child prodigy who can make a gun from nothing and the young prince Dalaam, is practiced in the ancient arts of MU. Together we will stop Giygas influences and end the self-destructive.
This brief No description does justice to the right game. While the game is quite linesman, who wants to explore. There is much humor to be found just by talking to people and a lot of little secrets to do if you are willing to find them (my personal favorite are the two sesame seeds are madly in love). But even if they ignore all this, the game will throw some strange things in you. One minute you're walking into a dungeon, the next time you're surrounded by dinosaurs. You be wondering around a city, fall into a trap, get help, then your perspective changes to a completely different character then play as in an attempt to rescue yourself. And then there's the final boss. Until now, the whole game is fairly light-hearted, but the points near the end are just bewildering enough to feed the nightmares. It is a truly original game that anyone who likes RPGs (and even those who have boycotted the genre) should cover. Ah, and the music is excellent, really.
"So if it is so great, why have not heard of him," I hear you ask. Good, was a big hit in Japan (known as Mother 2 [yes, it's a sequel]). However, in a mixture of bad publicity campaigns (This Game Stinks!) And poor marketing decisions, the game sold a lot in the U.S. and therefore was never released in Europe (much to my regret). The only way that I could play it through emulation.
I recommend this game to anyone who wants something more fun from their RPGs and play through whatever means necessary.
